In addition, 99% of apartments open to the outside world, they are not in buildings you enter, like in NYC. So, unless you live on an upper floor your front door is right there with out much protection between you and the outside world. Because so many people live in an apartment complex people can be passing your door all day long, within feet of you. It just creeps me out and I would not be able to sleep well. Plus, where I live, apartment complexes, even the nicest, are targets for criminals all the time. They sit in their cars in the parking lot and watch for people to leave so they can go kick their door in and rip them off, or worse rob them in person. In my home I have stronger windows, doors, better outside lighting to protect against break ins. Not to mention, in the land of cul de sacs (suburbia!) criminals don't venture into neighborhoods like mine, there are no easy exits in case they are seen or when they want to make a quick getaway |
